Faux Deer Head made from Cherry Wood paper

We have so many deer come through our yard, and get excited every time we see them. They just wander through the yard and leave as quick as they arrive. Our decorating style is woodsy, and while I haven’t always wanted a deer head for the wall, I really love the look of faux animal head mounts. These are very animal friendly and is such a popular trend! We’ve seen animal heads made from ceramic, metal, wood and fabric. These heads can be found in all shapes and sizes from Elephant heads to Unicorns!

We set out to create a faux deer head using our wood paper. We found this cool cardboard deer head, Bucky, over at Cardboard Safari.  While the deer head looks pretty awesome in cardboard he looks amazing covered in our adhesive backed Cherry Wood paper. What do you think?

Jacquard Stars 2

Jacquard Stars 3

Today we are excited to show you these stunning Wood paper stars using Lumiere to paint accents onto the wood. There are many colors and options of Lumiere. We used the Lumiere Mini Exciter Pack. It includes fabulous Metallic shades perfect for achieving these shiny dots. These stars make a stunning wood home decor that will last for years to come.

Lumiere  is a versatile, top quality, metallic acrylic paint.  Lumiere has fabric binders in it which are stronger and more flexible than those found in artist acrylics.  That makes Lumiere useful on many different surfaces from fabric, wood, paper, and even some plastics.  Lumiere does not crack, so it is perfect for flexible surfaces like leather.   Truly opaque for great coverage, Lumiere is great for coverage.  It comes in 32 metallic and pearlescent colors that are great for any project you want to stand out.  Lumiere self-cures in 72 hrs making it very tough even for outdoors applications.

Instructions for creating 3D Cherry Wood paper stars:

1. Die cut five 3D star points from Cherry Wood paper.

Star point

2. Create a polka dot stencil. We created a simple polka dot stencil using a heavy sheet of card stock and a 1/2″ circle punch.

Lumiere 1

3. Apply Lumiere color of choice to Cherry Wood paper using a sponge dauber. We used Lumiere Pearlescent Turquoise and Metallic Bronze. Test the colors of Lumiere on a scrap piece of Wood paper first so you achieve the color results you like the first time around. We started with Metallic Gold Lumiere and decided we wanted more color contrast against our Cherry Wood paper, Metallic Bronze was the ticket!

4. Fold creases of each star point and then assemble star with a heavy duty adhesive.

5. Repeat steps for multiple stars.

6. Display. These are so fun to make and spruce up any standard decor. Attach them to an outdoor wreath, or hang on a large monogram letter, or simply adhere to the wall for party decor.

Birch Wood Keepsake Box

Need a special place to keep all of those love notes you’ll be receiving in a few days? Some cards and notes are too important to throw-away but rather need to be tucked away! This week we created a keepsake box from a chipboard box and Birch Wood paper. Wood paper cuts great and made it super easy to create a heart faux wood inlay. This Birch Wood Keepsake box is simple and stunning. DIY directions for you to follow are listed below.

Supplies for Wood heart inlay box: 1 sheet of Birch Wood adhesive backed paper, 2 sheets of Birch Wood paper, chipboard box, pink ink, brayer, sanding block, heart die, Big Shot die-cutting machine, tape and foam adhesive.

Instructions to create Birch Wood heart inlay box:

1. Measure the top of your box. Our box is 7″ x 9″. Cut the Birch wood adhesive backed paper to 7″x 9″ (or the size of your box top). Remove the adhesive liner and adhere the wood paper to the box top. Lightly sand the outside edges with a sanding block if needed.

2. Ink a foam brayer in pink ink and transfer the ink onto a sheet of Birch wood paper. Roll ink onto paper until you receive the ink coverage you desire.

3. Cut out a heart from the pink colored Birch Wood paper and one from plain Birch Wood paper using a heart die and a Big Shot.

4. Place the cut out pink Birch wood heart into the negative space created from the cut plain Birch wood paper. Image should fit like a puzzle piece. Flip over and adhere the perimeter edges of the pink heart down to the Birch wood paper with tape. Check to be sure all edges nestle tightly.

5. Trim out the assembled inlay wood heart into a 5″ x 5″ square. Adhere to the wood box front with foam adhesive.
