CHA Show

ETC Papers was at the CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) show last week, if you weren’t able to make it to our booth, we wanted to be sure and share some of the items we showcased, especially, with the introduction of our new White Birch and Cherry Tape. Here are a few samples to illustrate some of the many uses for this new product! As well as other ideas using our wood sheets.

Business & Calling Cards

Today’s post showcases a fun and easy technique using our White Birch Wood Sheetsand a heat-burning pen. You can add a charming addition to your business or calling cards, it’s as simple as running a wood sheet through your printer.

Supply List:

8.5×11-inch White Birch Wood Sheet

Office or home printer and ink

Heat-burning Pen (Can be purchased for around $10.00 at any craft store or one-stop shopping center such as Walmart).

Stampin’ Trimmer (or any other paper trimmer)

Outlined image (You can download any image from online or create your own using any design program).

Business card design layout, which includes your business or personal contact information.


1. Layout 3.5×2-inch card design using any design program or downloading a predesigned template from online. And format document to 8.5×11-inches.

2. Paste outlined image into card design layout. You may want to maximize the sheet size by placing several card designs next to each other.

3. Print design.


4. Trace outlined image with wood burning heat tool, pressing gently as not to burn your fingers. Also, the slower you move the pen along, the darker the line will be. PLEASE NOTE: Be sure to follow all safety warnings and precautions included with heat burning tool packaging, including but not limited to unplugging tool after use, letting it cool completely, and keeping out of reach of children.

5. Once the image is outlined with heat burning tool, trim cards to 3.5×2-inches each using paper trimmer.

The Perfect Invite

Ordering wedding invitations can almost be as challenging as finding the perfect wedding dress! A great option is to create a design as unique as you are. With a touch of elegance and the flexibility of customization, your options are endless with our White Birch Wood sheets.


  1. Using a design program, or online store, layout your invitation text and imagery.
  2. Load White Birch Wood Sheets into printer.
  3. Print
  4. Cut

Mini Box & Happy Birthday 3×3 Card

Carrying last weeks birthday theme on to today, these two samples feature a mini birthday gift box and card. This small box has been created from a White Birch Wood, and embellished with die cut pieces in our Cherry Wood sheets, as well as, some ribbon, and a perfect size for two fun-sized candy bars. Great for a party favor or add the card to round out a simple gift. For a more masculine take on these two designs, simply swap out the pink for blue, green or any other color.


Mini Box Instructions:

  1. Trim 8.5×11 sheet of Whisper White Card Stock to 8.5×6-inches.
  2. Trim White Birch Sticky Backed Wood Sheet to 8.5×6-inches. Peel backing and adhere wood sheet to Whisper White Card Stock. This is done to add flexibility to wood sheet for scoring and folding mini box.
  3. Using Bigz XL Bitty Box & Envelope die, run the two layered card stock, just created, through the sizzix machine.
  4. Using the edge of a bone folders go over the score lines of the mini box, fold on the score lines to create the box.
  5. Wrap Scallop Edge Rose Red Polka Dot Ribbon around mini box approximately 1-inch from the top. Fasten with a knot. Using scissors, trim edges at an angle.
  6. Using Bigz Alphabet Typeset die, sizzix machine, and a piece of Cherry White Backed Wood Sheet, cut the letters “H” and “B”.
  7. Place two small holes at the top of the “H” and one small hole at the top of the “B” using the 1/16-inch hand punch.
  8. Thread the white embroidery floss through the small holes, bringing both ends of the floss together around the Scallop Edge Rose Red Polka Dot Ribbon. Fasten with a knot.

Card Instructions:

  1. With remaining piece of 8.5×11 sheet of Whisper White Card Stock, trim to 3×6-inches. Score at 3-inches and fold in half for base of card.
  2. Using Cherry and White Birch Wood Sheets, punch out base and frosting of cupcake image with Build-a-Cupcake punch.
  3. Place dimensionals on the back of base and frosting punch-outs. Set aside.
  4. Punch out two sets of pattern paper, candle images from the Build-a-Cupcake punch. Set aside.
  5. Use the Stamp a ma jig to align the Vintage Labels Stamp, “Happy Birthday” sentiment approximately ½-inch from the right and bottom of the card. Stamp the sentiment using Rose Red Class Ink.
  6. Remove backing from dimensional and adhere the base of the punched cupcake image approximately ¼-inch from the bottom of the card and ¾-inch from the left edge.
  7. Adhere the punched frosting image just above the base.
  8. Using liquid glue, apply a small amount to the punched candle images. Tuck slightly under the dimensionalized frosting image and adhere. Repeat for second candle image.

Happy Birthday Card

It is always a great idea to have an extra birthday card on hand, especially if you are headed to a birthday celebration right after a holiday! Today’s sample features stamping on a wood sheet to create a fun, personal greeting. Enjoy!


  1. Trim 1-8.5×11 sheet of Very Vanilla card stock to 4-1/4×11 inches.
  2. Using Simply Scored tool, score cut piece at 5-1/2 inches. Fold in half.
  3. Trim a piece of Lagoon Stardream Card Stock to 2-1/2x 4-1/4 inches. Cut edge of Stardream Card Stock with the Scallop Edge Punch. Align piece of Stardream with bottom of card and adhere.
  4. Trim pattern paper to 1×4-1/4 inches. Attach piece of pattern paper approximately 1 inch from the bottom of the card.
  5. Trim 12 inches of Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon. Wrap around card at  at approximately 1-1/2 inches from the bottom of the card, tie a knot.
  6. Stamp “Happy Birthday” on a piece of White Birch Wood in Chocolate Chip Ink. Punch out using Extra Large Oval Punch.
  7. Place a few Dimensionals on the back of the punched out “Happy Birthday” wood piece and adhere on top of the grosgrain ribbon approximately 1 inch from the bottom of the card and 3/8 inches from the right edge.

BBQ Invite

Independence Day is this week, and what better way to celebrate than bringing friends and family together for a backyard BBQ! Add a personal touch to your patriotic-colored invitation by embellishing with ETC Paper’s White Birch Wood Sheets and Cherry Wood sheets.

Supplies Used to Create Card:

White Birch Wood Sheet, Sticky backing

Cherry Wood Sheet, Sticky backing

Fiskar’s 1/16-inch hand punch

Stampin’ Up!, Whisper White Card Stock

Stampin’ Up! Soft Sky Card Stock

Stampin’ Up! Decorative Label Punch

Sampin’ Up! Pennant Punch

Stampin’ Up! Dimensionals

1/8-inch glue dots

Pattern Paper (Custom, Rouge Rhombus Design LLC)

Ink on paper, BBQ design (Custom, Rouge Rhombus Design LLC)

Ivory Button

1. On a 8.5×11 Whisper White piece of card stock, print custom label (“You’re Invited!”). Be sure to align label close to the edge of the page, as you will be using the other half of the card stock to create card base.

2. Once printed, cut 8.5×11 Whisper White Card Stock in half, to 8.5×5.5. Score the blank side at 4.25-inches and fold in half.

3. Trim “You’re Invited!” label out using scissors.

4. Punch White Birch, sticky backed wood sheet using Decorative Label Punch. Peel backing off and ahere to card, approximately 1.5-inches from the bottom of the card.

5. Place dimensionals on back of “You’re Invited!” label and adhere to card about 1/2-inch from the bottom of the card.

6. Using Pennant Punch, punch out White Birch wood sheet, Red Pattern Paper, and Soft Sky Card Stock.

7. With 1/8-inch hand punch, punch holes in corners of each pennant.

8. Thread Yellow Striped Twine through each pennant and tie a bow at each end.

9. Taking 1-1/2-inch piece of Cherry Sticky , trim width to 1/4-inch using scissors. Clip a half square shape out of one end of the short side of the tape. Peel backer from sheet and adhere to Soft Sky Card Stock.

10. Using needle and Gold Cotton thread, place stitches in Ivory Button holes and tie off thread on the back-side of the button.

11. Adhere Ivory Button to pennant using one 1/8-inch glue dot.

12. Place one-dimensional on the back of each pennant in banner and adhere to card in upper right corner.
