Valentine Heart Magnetic Display

This project uses Magnetic Rolls and Rustic Birch Wood Sheets. It’s perfect for display on a chalkboard, other magnetic surface or it can be displayed in a 6×6 frame.

Supplies: Magnetic Roll, Rustic Brich Wood Sheet, Heart Pattern, Red Grid Pattern Paper, Red Polka Dot Pattern Paper, 1/2-inch Red Ribbon, Heart Punch (various sizes), Old Book Paper, Letters Die, Die Cutting Machine (Big Shot was used here), Paper Trimmer, Adhesive and Foam Dimensionals.

Valentine Heart Magnetic Display Instructions:

1. Trim a piece of old book paper and magnetic roll to 6×6. Set aside both.

2. Next, download your free copy of the heart pattern we used. Print and cut out, then trace onto a sheet of red grid pattern paper and cut out.

3. Using a sheet of Rustic Birch , cut the letters ‘L’, ‘O’, ”V’, and ‘E’ with the letters die and die cutting machine. Peel backing from letters and adhere to front of red grid pattern paper heart, stacking the ‘L’ and ‘O’ directly over the ‘V’ and ‘E’.

4. Using a mini heart punch, punch one heart from the red polka dot pattern paper. Adhere to the center of the ‘O’ with a foam dimensional.

5. Trim a piece of 1/2-inch red ribbon to approximately 15-inches in length. Wrap around the ribbon around the paper, approximately 1 1/-2 inches from the bottom of the sheet. Fasten with a knot and trim ends at an angle.

6. Adhere red grid pattern paper heart to the center of the 6×6 old book paper piece, over the top of the ribbon.

7. Next, adhere old book paper to paper side of 6×6 magnetic piece.

Rustic Real Wood Box for Dad

Dress up your Father’s day gift packaging with a little Wood. We wrapped a box and created a simple tag using Rustic Cherry and Cherry Wood tape. Pair with a handcrafted card, like the one we posted last week and you are all set. Happy Father’s Day!

Supplies for Rustic Wood Box: 1 Roll of Rustic Cherry Wood, Cherry Wood tape, gift box, brown ribbon, brown patterned paper, scrabble letter tiles, sanding block, scissors and glue dots.

Instructions for wrapping Rustic Wood Box:

1. Measure your box lid and base.

2. Wrap lid: Add 1″ to the length measurement and wrap the box lid. Note: start on the inside lip and adhere. Remove liner as you go and pressing Rustic roll along top until you reach the other side, tucking and adhering the other edge into the box top. Measure the two remaining openings on the box sides and cut pieces for Rustic Wood to fit.

3. Following the directions in step 2, wrap the box bottom. Again, measure the two remaining openings on the box sides and cut pieces for Rustic Wood to fit.

4. Put lid onto box bottom for fit. Lightly sand any corners or edges as needed with a sanding block.

Fill with a goodie for father and then dress up your box with ribbon and a tag!

Rustic Birch Real Wood projects

Butterflies are making an appearance this spring, dancing around our woods. The project this week is inspired by spring butterflies and Rustic Birch Wood. This simple project came together in minutes with just a few basic supplies. If you have a shape punch and some wood you can recreate an art piece like ours.

Supplies for tiled Butterfly art piece: Rustic Birch wood, Butterfly punch, 12×12 canvas or surface and foam adhesive.

Instructions for tiled Butterfly art piece:

1. Punch out 30 butterflies from a sheet of Rustic Birch wood.

2. Arrange the punched butterflies in 6 rows of 5 onto a 12×12 canvas or surface. Use a ruler if needed to line up the butterflies and space evenly.

3. Adhere each butterfly to the surface using foam adhesive.

4. Display.


Rustic Birch wood is versatile and great to use in your paper crafting too. These two cards use Rustic Birch labels as the foundation embellishments. ARC label sheets are available in Rustic Birch, Rustic Cherry, Birch, Cherry and ChalkTalk.

National Scrapbooking day!

Another year another National Scrapbooking day … scrapbookers rejoice! Have you tried our Wood in your scrapbooks yet? We’ve been playing around with pocket scrapbooking and created these pocket cards out of our Rustic Cherry wood and Cherry Wood tape. Simply cut any Wood paper to 3″x4″, add embellishments and you are ready to place these in your albums. And you can cover an album like we did for a matching look.

Wrapping up the Holidays with a Real Wood Altered Book

Happy holidays and good tidings from ETC Papers! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have exciting plans for the New Year.

We are wrapping up our holiday projects with an altered book featuring all of the various Real Wood finishes we offer. Altered books are a labor of love and are a great way to experiment, use up supplies, try new products and techniques. We are using our altered book as a place to document our holiday happenings and to keep all of our holiday greeting cards and other holiday memorabilia. Check out the many pictures below featuring Cherry, Birch, Rustic Cherry and Rustic Birch Wood papers and tapes.

Supplies for our ‘Good Tidings’ Altered book: Cherry wood paper, Birch wood paper, Rustic Cherry wood paper, Rustic Birch wood paper, Cherry wood tape, Birch wood tape, an old Reader’s Digest book, holiday patterned papers, glitter, a variety of ribbons, tulle, brads, gold glitter paper, various shape and border punches, tab punch, holiday embellishments, holiday buttons, holiday rub-ons, baker’s twine, tags, holiday pictures and memorabilia, holiday cut files, Silhouette Cameo, adhesive and scissors.

A few tips for creating an altered book:

1. Find an older book that you don’t care about tearing apart and altering.

2. Remove pages throughout the book to allow for layers and pages with thicker elements. Tear or cut out chunks of pages next to the spine following pages with thicker embellishments.

3. Adhere multiple pages together to create thicker pages to better mount the various embellishments.

4. Add photos and personal memorabilia throughout.

5. Add some sort of closure to keep your book from popping open. We tie our book closed with baker’s twine.

Real Wood Halloween Banner

We are back with more fun Halloween decor using Real wood. We have created this Halloween banner using a roll of Rustic Cherry Wood paper. The Rustic Cherry wood paper serves as a great base for our Halloween letters and gives our banner a spooky tree and haunted woods vibe.

Supplies for the Rustic Wood Halloween Banner: Rustic Cherry Wood Roll, two 12×12 sheets of orange chevron paper, two 12×12 sheets of black halloween paper, one 12×12 sheet of HALLOWEEN letters (we used Teresa Collins Masquerade paper), black lace ribbon, two black clothespins, foam tape adhesive, and a mini stapler.

Instructions for the Rustic Wood Halloween Banner:

1. Cut out nine 4″ x 5″ pieces from the Rustic Cherry wood roll.

2. Cut out nine 4″ x 3.5″ pieces from the orange chevron patterned paper.

3. Cut out nine 4″ x 3.5″ pieces from the black Halloween patterned paper.

4. Remove the adhesive liner from the back of the Rustic Cherry wood and adhere to the orange chevron and the black Halloween paper leaving 1″ of the patterned paper showing on the top and the bottom. Repeat this process 9 times to created your banner pieces. See photo below.

5. Cut out the HALLOWEEN letters. You will have nine 3″x3″ square letters.

6. Adhere each letter to the Rustic Cherry wood using foam tape. Center each letter from top to bottom and left to right.

7. Cut eight 2″ pieces of black lace ribbon. Attach each letter together using the black lace ribbon and a stapler until you’ve spelled out the word Halloween.

8. Cut two 12″ pieces of black lace ribbon. Staple the ribbon to each end of the banner (the H and the N).

9. Attached two black clothespins to the corners of the H and the N banner pieces.

10. Hang banner.

Real Wood Fall Leaf Wreath

The wood textures and tones on our Real Wood products compliment fall perfectly. Our inspiration this week is a woodsy fall wreath. This wreath evokes a warm and cozy feel – perfect for welcoming fall. Our fall wreath uses various finishes, can you spot all of the different of wood papers and tapes?

Supplies for Fall Wreath: Cherry Wood 8.5X11 Sheet , Cherry Wood Tape, White Birch Wood Tape, White Birch 12×24 Adhesive Roll, Rustic White Birch 12×24 Adhesive Roll, Cherry 12×24 Adhesive Roll, Rustic Cherry 12×24 Adhesive Roll, small foam wreath base, 1-1/4 inch striped ribbon, 1/5 inch burgundy ribbon, small pinecones, small plastic berries, various leaf dies and a die cutting machine, alphabet stamp set and burgundy ink, hot glue and glue gun and scissors

Directions for Fall Wreath:

1. Wrap foam wreath with Cherry Wood tape. Cover wreath completely.

2. Cut out leaves from a variety of wood sheets and rolls using leaf dies and a die cutting machine. You will need approximately 30 leaves (5 Cherry, 5 Rustic Cherry, 5 White Birch, 5 Rustic White Birch).

3. Arrange leaves onto right side of wreath and glue down with hot glue.

4. Wooden flowers: Adhere two 6×6 pieces of wood sheets back to back. Cut a spiral shape. Twist, turn and shape spiral into a flower and adhere together with hot glue. Create wooden shapes for flower centers and glue down. Fill empty flower centers with plastic berries. Create 3 flowers using White Birch (1) and Cherry(2) adhesive rolls.

5. Arrange flowers and pinecones onto wreath and adhere. See example.

6. FALL ribbon banner: Adhere two 15 inch pieces of Birch Wood tape back to back. Cut a V flag shape at each end. Roll, fold and glue wood ribbon to create a banner shape. Stamp FALL in the center of ribbon banner using burgundy ink.

7. Adhere ribbon banner and more pinecones onto wreath.

8. Tie ribbons to wreath to hang and display.

Real Wood & World Card Making Day!

It’s October 4th and today is World Card Making Day! Yes, a day just for us card makers. We joined in on the card making fun and created a ‘World’ themed card using Rustic Cherry Wood, Cherry Wood and Birch Wood papers. Supplies for the ‘You mean the WORLD to me’ Card: Rustic Cherry Wood, Cherry Wood and Birch Wood papers, light blue card stock, green card stock, confetti white card stock, confetti cream card stock, light blue stamp ink, black sta-zon ink, light blue marker, world stamp, ‘you mean the world to me’ stamp phrase, coral card stock, linen thread, small heart punch, 2.5″ circle punch, inverse corner punch, scissors, foam tape, and adhesive.

Instructions for the ‘You mean the WORLD to me’ Card:

1. Cut a piece of light blue card stock to 4.25″ x 5.5″. Score and fold in half for card base.

2. Cut a piece of Rustic Cherry Wood to 3″ x 5.5″. Remove adhesive liner and adhere to center of the card.

3. Cut a piece of Cherry Wood to 1.5″ x 5.5″. Remove adhesive liner and adhere to center of the Rustic Cherry Wood piece.

4. Cut a piece of coral card stock to 1.25″ x 3″. Punch a small heart toward the bottom of the coral card stock. Snip a flag shape at the bottom of the card stock below the punched heart. Wrap an 8″ piece of linen thread around the coral card stock piece four times just above the heart. Tie linen thread ends into a knot. Adhere coral card stock heart flag onto the piece of Cherry Wood using foam tape, centering flag from left to right. See example for spacing suggestion.

5. Cut a piece of green card stock to 3″ x 3″. Punch all four corners of the green card stock square with an inverse corner punch. Wrap 20″ of linen thread around green card stock square, the inverse corners should temporarily hold thread in place. Tape thread down on back side.

6. Stamp the phrase ‘you mean the world to me’ into blue ink onto the confetti white card stock. Punch out using a 2.5″ circle punch making sure the phrase is centered in the bottom half of the circle.

7. Stamp the world image in black sta-zon ink onto a piece of Birch Wood paper. Color in the water areas of the world with a light blue marker. Cut out world shape. Adhere world to top center of 2.5″ punched out circle using foam tape.

8. Stamp the phrase ‘you’ in blue ink onto a piece of confetti cream card stock. Cut out ‘you’ phrase and flag ends. Adhere to stamped Birch Wood world image using foam tape.

Real Wood Pocket Cards

This week we created simple Wood pocket cards using the various Wood finishes. Pocket cards have many uses. Use a pocket card as an interesting way to enclose a note for someone, add an interactive element to a scrapbook page, or create memorable packaging for gift cards and note cards. Wood is so versatile and looks amazing partnered with your favorite patterned paper.

Supplies for the ‘Real Wood Pocket’ cards: White Birch Wood Adhesive Sheet, Rustic White Birch Adhesive Sheet, Rustic Cherry Wood Adhesive Sheet, Cherry Wood Adhesive Sheet, a variety of patterned papers, Big Shot or die cutting machine, pocket card die, adhesive, sanding block, and pinking scissors.

Pocket Card Directions:

1. Remove adhesive liner from the back of the White Birch Wood Adhesive Sheet and back with a sheet of patterned paper. Please note: The White Birch Wood might show the pattern from the pattern paper through the wood.

2. Cut out a pocket from the pattern paper lined Wood sheet using a Big Shot and a pocket card die.

3. Trim the pocket top and front pouch using pinking scissors. See example.

4. Fold and assemble the pocket card. Adhere side and bottom together.

5. Sand off any wood splinters from the folded edges using a sanding block.

6. Repeat steps 1-5 to make more pocket cards with your favorite Wood; White Birch Wood, Rustic White Birch, Rustic Cherry Wood, Cherry Wood.
